Responsibilities

As a Group Leader at Community Legal Aid you will be responsible for carriage of your files for the summer term. This will entail conducting all responsibilities of a caseworker and litigator.

In the following academic year you will be responsible for leading a group of CLA volunteer caseworkers and litigators. Files will be assigned to your group and you will have oversight on all work completed by your group members on these files. You will lead mandatory weekly group meetings which will include summary discussions of ongoing files, status reports, and oversight of intakes. Files assigned to your group are your responsibility. You will ensure that all deadlines are adhered to and appearances before the various forums are carried out.  You will provide guidance and oversight of all intakes performed during group times and be available to meet, consult and discuss client files with individual group members.

Qualifications

Effective oral and written communication skills

Ability to supervise and lead peers

Strong organization and time management skills analyze legal issues and good judgment

Interest in social justice, criminal law, litigation practice, and administrative law

Effective interpersonal and leadership skills

Strong legal research abilities

Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision

Willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions

Experience working with client files and office procedure in a legal office setting
